Puerto Madero and its cranes
Located behind the Retiro area, Puerto Madero is a compound of basins, cranes and docks (huge sheds where cargo brought in by freighters arriving to port was stored in the past).
The New Waterfront
Puerto Madero on a sunny Sunday afternoon. In the background you can see numerous new residential high-rises of up to 50 stories.

Rain over the city
Yesterday afternoon, the sky hazed over, an intense but short rain and wind fell over the city. I kind of like this shot that I found in the newspaper La Nacion. This is somewhere in Puerto Madero very close from the docks.

Mercedes model
I found this Mercedes-Benz “model” in front of the Mercedes store in Puerto Madero -
I’m heading out of town for a few days going to Salta for the Easter celebrations. Salta is a city in northwestern Argentina, at the foothills of the Andes mountains. BA daily postings will resume next week. I’ll bring back lots of pictures from Salta and surroundings to share with you.

Puente de la Mujer by Leandro
Today’s contribution is from Leandro, an Argentine living in Posadas, in the province of Misiones. He gently sent me some of his pictures so I can share them on BA daily. This picture was taken in Puerto Madero and showing the so famous “Puente de la Mujer“. You can check out this posting I did in March 06, telling you a bit more about the bridge: Puente de la Mujer.

Past the docks
If you walk past the docks of Puerto Madero, eventually crossing the Puente de la Mujer, you’ll arrive to this peaceful and beautiful green space, with buildings constructions all around.

Monumento al Tango
The is the first monument dedicated to a music genre: a large steel accordeon, weighing two tons, was placed in the exclusive neighborhood of Puerto Madero. The official inauguration will take place on the 22nd this month.

Night on Puerto Madero
I could not help resist posting this picture taken from an article in La Nacion. Night overview of Puerto Madero. More views of Puerto Madero: 1, 2, 3.

Night view of Puerto Madero
A walk during the day or at night is always a pleasant thing to do in Puerto Madero, the riverfront of Buenos Aires. It’s a booming area, with businesses, bars, restaurants and clubs. To read more about Puerto Madero, click here.

Going away for the week end
The port of Buenos Aires. It has been declared open port in the late 1700s by Charles III of Spain. I already mentioned this in an older posting, but the people of Buenos Aires are known as porteños (people of the port), acknowledging the major historical importance of the port in the development of the city and the nation. The boats roomed and the tip of green on the left belong to the yacht club argentino.

Siting at a cafe-Puerto Madero
Sunday afternoon, relaxing at one of the various cafes along the waterfront.
Dimanche apres-midi, tranquille, a l’un des nombreux cafés qui bordent les quais du port.

Along the waterfront
Puerto Madero represents the lastest architectural trend in Buenos Aires. Puerto Madero consists of old docks where the cargo brought by the ships was stored. There docks were restored with the idea of integrating the port to the city extending the downtown area. By day, this riverfront area is a booming business and shopping district and by night, a hip neighborhood with pricey restaurants and fashionable clubs. The docks were refurbished to become office buildings on the upper floors, or lofts and allocate sumptuous restaurants along the river.
Cow Parade
You may have seen them in your cities. Yesterday, while walking in Puerto Madero, the port of Buenos Aires, we saw so many of them lined up along the banks. This is Cows Parade Buenos Aires 2006, exhibition that has 120 natural size fiber glass cows on which the artists, painted and modeled, their artistic projects. This international movement has been made in the main cities of the world, among them Zurich, Prague, Brussels, New York, Chicago, Stockholm, Tokyo and Sydney, where the multicolored herds made by different artists have appeared.
