Aguas Calientes

Aguas Calientes is the colloquial name for Machupicchu Pueblo, a town in Peru on the Urubamba (Vilcanota) River. It is best known as the closest access point to the sacred Incan city of Machu Picchu, which is 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) away, about 1.5 hours walk. It has many hotels and restaurants for tourists, as well as natural hot baths, which give the town its name (“hot waters” in Spanish).

After a 10-day trip to Peru, BA daily is back next week

14th of July in Carcassonne

Because it was our Bastille day yesterday, I wanted to share with you a picture of our traditional fireworks in Carcassonne. Carcassonne is a fortified French town in the South of France, in the Aude department, historically rich & mainly characterized by its fortified city. Fortified city which is hidden behind all the smokes in this picture. You can read more in the Wikipedia article about Carcassonne. I’ll be back posting on Tuesday, I’m off now to a little city in the Pyrenees. Pyrennees are a range of mountains that form a natural border between France and Spain.

Our last 2 days in the French Riviera

We’re currently enjoying our time in Antibes, between Cannes and Nice, on the French Riviera. Thanks all for you previous comments. I just wanted to drop you a line to let you know I’ll be back posting on the 13th. I was happy to meet with Eric in Paris last week. We chatted an hour in a cafe, and yes that’s true, Eric is a really charming person and a really friendly Parisian. Thanks again Eric for finding time to meet with us. Picture with this meeting on Thursday :)

Our 12-day-trip in France starts today.

Today I leave you all with a picture taken in the South of France, in Collioure. In the early 1900s Collioure became a center of artistic activity, with several Fauve artists making it their meeting place. André Derain, Georges Braque, Othon Friesz, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Tsuguharu Fujita have all been inspired by Collioure’s Royal Castle, medieval streets, lighthouse-converted-into-church Notre-Dame-des-Anges and typical Mediterranean bay in their paintings. In Collioure’s cemetery, there is the tomb of Spanish poet Antonio Machado, where he was buried after his death fleeing away from Francoist troops at the end of the Spanish Civil War in the 20th century.

For the next 12 days, I won’t be able to post since I’ll be travelling without my laptop, but more to come on the 13th when we come back in the South.

Watching

Watching a soccer game from outside the stadium ? This is possible. Park your bike outside the cancha (football field), stand on them, and you will have a not-so-bad-view of what’s happening inside. That photo had been taken in Uruguay. That won’t be seen in Buenos Aires where the football stadiums are 10 times bigger in size and heights.

Back in time in Colonia

Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay. I mentioned this city in an early posting, and because I have tons of pictures taken there, I share one more with you today. A visit to the historic center of Colonia is like a walk back in time. Founded in 1680 by the Portuguese, this old colonial town is renowned for its cobbled, windy streets and colorful houses reminiscent of old Lisbon.
The following picture really looks like there are shooting an historic movie, and what we see could be the movie set. Well of course this was not the case, I’m just making it up ;)

Today, I’ll bring you to Uruguay. I frequently go there, it’s only 3 hours boat from Buenos Aires and it can easily be visited in one day. Colonia del Sacramento, or simply called Colonia, is a city in southwestern Uruguay and is the oldest town in the country . The historical parts of Colonia are named by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. I will show you many pictures in the future about Uruguay. This photo has been taken in the Whisper street – Calle D- Los Suspiros – and is known as the most typical, oldest st. in Colonia covered with pavements.
