Plaza Francia Mitre
***April 23: Corrections to this posting: what you are looking at is NOT Plaza Francia, but Plaza Mitre. This is my mistake and this is not so long ago that I got to learn about it, when walking by the Plaza I discovered its name “Plaza Mitre”- Plaza Francia is just a few meters away nonetheless, and I’ll post one shot very soon. So all my excuses for misleading the readers with the wrong information. Around Plaza Mitre, you´ll find a a series of exclusive residences of French architecture where the Great Britain Embassy stands out. Bartolomé Mitre was an outstanding Argentine politician. He was born in 1821, and elected President of the Nation in 1862.

c’est la plus belle!

What a lovely scene! And gorgeous sky. It’s interesting to read about the history of the place!

Hi – I’m new to CDPB. Buenos Aires is one of my favorite cities on the planet and your pictures bring back lots of good memories. We were their most recently in November 2006. It is beautiful, sophisticated and has a tremendous number of great restaurants. Highlights of our last visit were listening to Orquesta Tipica Imperial playing on the street during the Sunday Feria de San Telmo and dinner at Olsen.
One suggestion:your large picture sizes make for easy viewing but it also makes your pages slow to download you might consider a somewhat smaller picture size. I wonder if some people leave your blog because they are too impatient to wait for the whole page to load.

I just love the cloud formation.

No, no, no. La plus belle c’est Karine!
Lovely, lovely shot, francesita porteña, as usual.
One thing, though, I’m quite certain that “la feria hippie de Plaza Francia” didn’t start until the early ’70s.
BTW, I don’t think people would leave Karine’s blog because the pix take too long to load. Most people who frequent photo blogs do so because they have a high speed connexion and high screen resolution. I, for one, avoid photo blogs with small pix.
A bien tot

Oui mais Karine n’est pas une place LOL
This photo is simply gorgeous Karine. And to know that it’s called Plaza Francia makes it even more special LOL (Cocorico!)

What a gorgeous shot – the combination of different elements makes it really special. Those clouds look so tranquil.

Thanks you all for the comments
Strangetastes — I did reduce the quality sized for the last 2 postings. Hope this helps you view faster the blog.
I agree with MS though that a site with small size pictures is not attractive, and I tend to not look at the pictures either if they’re small. And never anyone had mentioned something about the blog being slow to load. Well let’s see how that works now

Karine, just to confirm that the feria hippie was first held in Plaza Francia in 1972. You can read more about it under “La falta de baños en la Ferias Artesanales de Interés Turístico” at http://www.curiosamonserrat.com.ar/index070125.htm

MS– Many many thanks for the info

Hi. You really should correct the date in the caption. As noted by someone else, twice already, Plaza Francia didn’t become famous for its hippie fair until 1972. Actually, it was the following year, 1973, when “la feria de artesanos” became known as “la feria hippie”.
