Memorial monument
In the Retiro district in front of the English Tower (Torre de los Ingleses), you’ll find the memorial for the dead in the 1982 Falklands/Malvinas war. The Falklands War (Spanish: Guerra de las Malvinas) was fought in 1982 between Argentina and the United Kingdom over the Falkland Islands, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands. The Falkland Islands consist of two large and many small islands in the South Atlantic Ocean east of Argentina, whose ownership had long been disputed. You can’t see it on this picture, but there’s also an eternal burning fire to commemorate the heros who died during that war. The names of all victims are graved into marble plaques. There are always guards of the Argentine army.

If Argentine citizens come to know the full story of the role of their Generals both during, and before this conflict, it will bwcome that much more difficult for future military attempts to take over their Nation.

As a US/UK vet myself, I say, forget the politics and salute the soldiers. Those men deserve the honour that they earned in battle, not the second guessing of modern day political historians.

From England and staying at a hotel on Sunday 3rd Feb 07 near the memorial site we came and sat and wonderered. Two very smart soldiers on duty and playing their part in honouring such a tragic loss of young men.
