A bit of the engineering school

In the background, you can see a section of the University of Engineering. It has been inaugurated as a Law school. This is one of the three buildings, the University of Engineering has in the city. The building is located at Av. Las Heras 2214. The picture has been taken from the Avenue Pueyrredon.

  1. Oh, my G****!!!
    I STUDIED THERE, Karine
Therefore, I feel qualified to expand your comments (and correct a couple of terms … :) )
It’s actually the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Buenos Aires. You’re right, it is indeed one of the three buildings the Faculty of Engineering of the UBA has in the city and the second in importance. The building is obviously gothic in style and looks older than it is. It was built around 1915 to house the Law School and served that purpose until aproximately 1950 when it was given to Engineering (Law had built another school by then). Inside the building, you can still see images of the sword and the balance representing Justice on some vitraux, a relic from the Law School period.
Presently, students of the final years of Industrial and Civil engineering study there. Most other orientations of Engineering are studied at the main building of the Faculty which is on Paseo Colon Avenue.
Your picture shows a side of the building across a nice square and I guess that you took it from across Pueyrredon Avenue during a red light so no cars would cross. Unfortunately that’s the only side that allows for a wide photo like that, all the others are blocked by surrounding buildings.
Thanks for showing my School on your blog and keep it up.

  3. Hello there!!!!
I dunno if is actually true, but i heard or read somewhere that the building was never finished due some bad calculation -sorry, bad english mine-, i mean the civilian engineer that worked in the building made mistakes in the planning of it, and near finish it it was discovered that was impossible to end the work because if the if the do it, the whole building would crash down.
    nice blog. chauuuuu

  4. Ooops, forgot something. Supposedly, the engineer or architect that screw it up with the blue prints and maths, killed himself for that.
    legend says so.
