Teatro Colon in renovation
Since November 2006, South America’s most famous opera house, Teatro Colon is closed for renovation, its most thorough makeover yet. The theater is slated to reopen in May 2008 with “Aida” by Giuseppe Verdi, marking the centennial celebration for the opera house. By then, everything in the 2,478-seat hall will have been overhauled: the acoustic tiles, the wooden stage and balconies, the lighting and air conditioning.

Will you be going to the opening night? Do you have tickets?
I would want to go to that event. It would be wonderful.

Karine - I wish we had been able to attend a performance at the Teatro Colon! My wife and I are big opera fans. We took a tour of the building on our first visit, before the work began, but it was not the right season. By our second visit last November the restoration had started and the building was closed. Going to an opera performance there is a must-do for our next trip to BsAs.

I vsited that theatre when I was in BA — it’s a lovely theatre, although I didn’t see a performance there.
I love your bottom photograph of the inside.
